Bang, bang! A shot of Ariana Grande and Big Sean holding hands backstage at MTV’s Video Music Awards Sunday night sent the rumor mill ablaze.
While previous reports indicated they were “getting very close,” it appears they may have confirmed their budding romance at the star-studded affair in Inglewood, Calif.
“They have been friends since they made the song together,” a source told E! News earlier this month about the rapper and singer’s collaboration on her track “Problem.”
“I did another song with my best friend, Big Sean, and it’s called ‘Best Mistake,'” she told Ryan Seacrest during a July interview. “It’s one of my favorites on the album.”
Through their musical ties, the pair has reportedly grown to be more than friends.
“They have been spending more time together and recently have been getting very close,” the source added to E! on Aug. 11. “They are both doing great.”
In fact, they appeared to be doing great together when the pair reportedly went on a movie date to see “The Purge” at the Grove in Los Angeles. They were said to be kissing during the flick and exited before it was over.
Smiling brightly Sunday night, the duo held hands and chatted as they walked down a hallway backstage at VMAs.
At one point, Grande, 21, was even seen embracing the 26-year-old “Beware” rapper, who broke off his engagement with Naya Rivera in April before the “Glee” star shocked the world by marrying longtime pal Ryan Dorsey three months later.
Grande also endured a recent split from the 19-year-old Australian YouTube star Jai Brooks for the second time in July because he wasn’t supportive when her grandfather passed away.
“When her grandfather was dying, everyone was there for her,” a source previously told E! “People flew to Florida to be with her, but Jai didn’t. Ariana just felt he wasn’t there like he should have been.”
Around the same time, Grande tweeted a cryptic message.
“You learn a lot about love, life & the people around you during a time of crisis,” she wrote on Aug. 4.
“July was painful for many reasons but of all the personal loss I suffered last month, the loss of my grandfather, a true gentleman, was the only one that truly mattered,” Grande continued. “I thank everybody who was here for me when I needed them as the ones who weren’t really broke my heart.”
Now it seems both the former “Sam & Cat” star and Big Sean have moved on into the company of one another.
A rep for Grande has yet to respond to the Daily News’ request for comment.
